World Snooker Tour Structure

World Snooker have announced a new Tour Structure for next season and beyond.

The Tour will consist of 96 players which will be broken down as shown below for the forthcoming season.

The exciting prospect for international governing bodies in the future structure is the guaranteed places directly onto the Tour from the 2006/2007 season. The path for aspirational players from grass roots to the top of the sport is now clear and concise, which meets the demands of the players and the sport going forward.

The criteria for selecting the places awarded to the national governing bodies (NGB) will, where necessary, be finalised through discussions between each NGB and World Snooker. Nominations for wildcard places for The Tour 2005/2006 should be made in writing by the NGB and be received by World Snooker no later than close of business 28 March 2005. Note: All qualification events must be played using WPBSA Rules and Regulations.

TOUR QUALIFYING CRITERIA - 2005/2006 SEASON

The total of 96 players on the World Snooker Tour will be determined as follows:


Top 58 from the official (two-year) Embassy World Ranking list at the end of 2004/2005 season
Top 6 from the 2004/2005 Pontin’s Holidays Challenge Tour Order of Merit
Next 6 from the official (two-year) Embassy World Ranking list at the end of 2004/2005 season
Top 16 from the 2004/2005 one-year ranking points list
Players ranked 7 and 8 from the 2004/2005 Pontin’s Holidays Challenge Tour Order of Merit
International Champions
(IBSF World Champion, IBSF World U21 Champion, Europe x2, Asian x2)
Wildcards

PONTIN’S INTERNATIONAL OPEN SERIES (PIOS)

The Pontin’s International Open Series will replace the Pontin’s Holidays Challenge Tour from next season. The basis of the Series is as follows:

• Event schedule of 8 events starting in May 2005 (see attached dates)
• All entrants must be amateur and members of their National Governing Body
• Open to all players aged 15 years and above (15 years by the first event closing date)
• Players can enter as many or as few events as they wish
• The best 6 results count towards the final order of merit
• Top 8 from the end of series order of merit will qualify for the Tour 2006/2007
• Entry fees will be £150 per tournament
• Prize money will be subject to and funded by entries
• All events will be played at the World Snooker Centre @ Pontin’s, Prestatyn.
